Position Summary

The Center for Global Change & Earth Observations (CGCEO) in the College of Social Science, Michigan State University, invites applications for a 9-month tenure system faculty position at the rank of Professor in the area of global environmental change. Start date is negotiable. CGCEO has a specific focus on international dimensions of land use and land cover change, through externally funded projects around the globe. It has long-standing commitments and research programs in Africa and Asia and is expanding its activities in Brazil and other parts of South America. MSU has an extensive network of long-term partners around the globe, including universities, regional agriculture networks, government agencies and non-profit organizations.

Building upon our existing strengths in the Center, we seek an individual with exceptional potential in next-generation global change science, Science and Technology for Society (STS), remote sensing, and geospatial sciences within the vision of the Future Earth Program. A strong candidate will have a research focus addressing the nexus of food, water and energy in critical regions of the world. International experience is required. Excellence in research is required with a demonstrated publication and grant record. We expect that the candidate will continue his/her active program of research and will regularly seek resources from outside the University to support that research program. Interdisciplinary research and experience with coupled human-natural systems, process-based modeling, technical skills in handling Big Data, and research on decision-making across multiple scales and governance are among the desired areas of expertise.

The primary research appointment will be at the Center for Global Change & Earth Observations, but the tenure home is negotiable. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate degree in hand at the time of appointment. Interactions are expected with computer science and engineering, agricultural sciences, and environmental sciences to generate knowledge required to advance science and the needs of stakeholders.

MSU is an affirmative-action, equal-opportunity employer. MSU is committed to achieving excellence through a diverse workforce and inclusive culture that encourages all people to reach their full potential. The University actively encourages applications and/or nominations of women, persons of color, veterans, and persons with disabilities.
